Multiple people have been injured in a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, police say.
The Madison Police Department said it was responding to the shooting at 10:57 a.m. Monday and urged people to avoid the area around the school.
Several casualties have been reported, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes told CNN, though no exact number was provided. Multiple injured have been transported to hospitals, including students and a staff member who may have fatal injuries, he added.

“Multiple injuries have been reported. This remains an active and ongoing investigation. More information will be released as it is available,” police said in an incident report.
The suspect has been stopped by law enforcement, Barnes said. Police are still conducting secondary searches of the building and vehicles.

Abundant Life Christian School is a K-12 school serving approximately 390 students, according to its website.
The school has a 28-acre campus and its website boasts “smaller class sizes” that cater to students from about 200 families in the Dane County area.
The school planned to close for Christmas Vacation after this week.

Roads around the 4900 block of Buckeye Road will be blocked off as law enforcement investigate.

Parents and students were reuniting at the SSM Health building at near the intersection of East Buckeye Road and Stoughton Road.
A Madison Metropolitan School District spokesperson said La Follette High School, Sennett Middle School and Elvehjem Elementary School were put on secure hold due to the shooting.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes was expected to deliver an update around 12:15 p.m.
